Hand-tied Rope Halters
for Miniature Horses
and Shetland Ponies
This is “Gunner,” one of the horses used
in our “Natural Training Method for Miniature Horses” DVD. He is wearing one of
my hand-tied rope halters. I start all training horses in this halter as
opposed to a traditional flat nylon halter.
The rope halter has a bit more "bite" to it than a regular nylon or leather halter. Horses will lean on it less, pull on it less, and it gives the handler a little more control of them. They’re made of a lighter-weight cord than most people use, but it’s still strong enough to hold a Miniature Horse or Shetland Pony, even while standing tied. And I don’t tie knots on the noseband like many rope halters have. We simply haven’t found them to be necessary.

This is “Echo,” the other horse we used in the filming of the DVD. This photo clearly shows the quick release knot that we recommend when using a rope halter.
Rosa Roca can make these rope halters in any size. To order one, simply send us the measurements of your halter’s noseband and cheekpiece. I’ll make you a custom rope halter that will fit your horse and give you an added measure of control.
Halters are $20 each (which includes shipping and handling). Tell me your preferred color and I’ll try to match it if possible. Halters do not include lead rope.
